Butter Biscuits with Chuck

a.k.a. Our Dutch Oven Expert

If you’ve been lucky to attend our annual Grilling Gala, you’ve probably had the fortune of meeting Chuck, our dutch oven expert! Chuck really knows his way around a dutch oven. He’s taught us the dutch oven basics and is so kind to share a lot of his recipes with us. One of the recipes he’s shared with us this year is his dutch oven Butter Biscuits. These Butter Biscuits are so good that you’ll probably want to eat half of the batch by yourself. Break out your dutch oven and whip up a batch this summer. You’ll be so happy you did!

Butter Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-Purpose Four
  • 1 cup Whole wheat flour
  • 3 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/4 oz packet dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 cups Buttermilk
  • 3/4 Butter, melted

Instructions

Preheat dutch oven to 400 degrees.

Combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Dissolve yeast in warm water, add to dry ingredients with buttermilk. Blend thoroughly. Turn onto a board dusted with wheat flour. Roll out to 1/4" thick. Cut out with 2 1/2" cutter. Dip biscuit in melted butter, fold in half and place in dutch oven. Bake for 15 minutes.
